THANK YOU FOR VISITING ALL-AMERICAN MUTT RESCUE
HELP US MAKE 2025 A GREAT YEAR TO ADOPT A RESCUE DOG!
All-American Mutt Rescue was founded and became a 501c3 non-profit organization in 2008. Our motto has always been “Rescue – Rehome – Real Love.” In a perfect world each pup would come in and then go to a new home quickly. In reality, some need extra medical care, extra socialization, or more training than others, so their stay is a bit longer. Some stay . and stay . and stay . and often we can never understand why!
People generally get involved with rescue because they love animals. These people can usually find some redeeming qualities in even the most difficult ones. They ‘excuse’ a lot of things … blaming it on past traumas, abuse, neglect … the things that forced many of them into public animal control facilities. Rescuers tend to not ‘see’ breed, color, size, gender or even age in pets … just the need for help get their lives back on track.
People planning to adopt a rescue pet to add to their family often have a very specific list of things they do and do not find acceptable. Most often these things include gender, age, good health and size. Sometimes they find what they are looking for. Sometimes they fall in love with a rescue pet that does not fit 'the list,' but they adopt them anyway. Sometimes in order to find what they want, they turn to a breeder
Statistically, a dog or cat is killed in America’s shelters every 90 seconds just because they don’t have a safe place to call home. Public facilities (pounds) are open-admission and must (by law) accept any animal brought to them. When they are out of space, there are difficult decisions to be made, and often perfectly healthy, adoptable pets perish.
AAMR is not an open-admission rescue. When we don't have space available in a foster home, we cannot take in additional pets. So after almost 20 years in rescue, we now have an additional mission to add to the identity of All-American Mutt Rescue … companion animal sanctuary and hospice care.
Companion animal sanctuaries are rescues/facilities that provide care, including hospice and comfort care, and a home environment to live in for as long as necessary. Some of these animals have experienced abuse, neglect, abandoment, separation from their families, while some have simply gotten older and have physical ailments.
AAMR is a non-profit rescue that embraces a 'no-kill' philosophy, so when potential adopters deem some perfectly imperfect pets 'unadoptable,' we find ourselves with sanctuary animals. Our goal is to meet the physical, emotional, behavioral, and social needs of these pets. And we need your support to do this.
Currently AAMR has 18 animals that would still love to have new homes, but they are essentially in sanctuary status due to age (10 yrs or older), behavior (separation anxiety, not liking to be picked up, needing to be an only pet, needing a fenced yard because they are flight-risks), chronic health issues requiring one or more daily medications, such as food allergies, ear infections, heart issues, seizure disorders, renal issues, gastrointestinal issues, severe osteoarthritis, or cancer.
The sanctuary pups have extra vet bills, including prescription and over-the-counter medications. Many require prescription foods that can cost $98-$130 for a 25 lb bag or $115-$145 for a case of 24 cans. Donations like yours are what allow AAMR to meet the needs of both the highly adoptable pups and the sanctuary status pups.
Please check out our sweet pups available for adoption or sponsorship.
Adoption fees and your donations are the only sources of income for AAMR. 100% of your donations go to care for all the foster pups! Thank you for giving generously!

In the great words of my favorite Pedigree commercial . . .
"Shelter dogs aren't broken, they've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don't pity a shelter dog.... Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness by your side."

Statistically it is more difficult for rescues to place animals over 2 years old, animals with any special physical or medical needs, animals of certain breeds, and animals that are black - especially if they are also large.
But we believe 'Less Adoptable' Pets Rule
Here are just a few reasons we love "special" pets:
* Older pets are mellower - you don't have to worry about your lamp getting knocked over!
* Physically challenged pets are often unaffected by their handicap - but you still look like a hero when you rescue them!
* With "bad reputation" breeds, you get the chance to prove people wrong with your great dog!
* Dark-furred pets make it easy to accessorize - black goes with everything!
* Pets with behavioral issues allow you to form a tight bond as you overcome obstacles together!
* Big dogs are easier to find when it's time to go to the vet!
