ADOPTED!  September 6, 2017 is the first day of Andre's new life.  His new mom thinks his new name will be Moose ... but we know he will have two Chinese Crested sisters!  Oh ... and a Great Dane brother! Let the fun begin!

Energy level:  like a super-charged Energizer Bunny

Fenced yard required?:   YES … he is far too fast for most of us to catch and he needs a place to run off energy

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk:  YES … learning

Obedience training:  No

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK … gets a little stressed at first and will drool 

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES

Social with cats: Has not been around cats in foster care, but would probably love to chase them and try to play with them

Good with children:  Would probably be fine with respectful, gentle children over 10.  He is very small and cannot take a lot of rough play and handling

When Andre was surrendered to a public animal control facility, he was surrendered as a Chinese Crested, but we are now convinced that he is actually a Xoloitzcuintli (pronounded show-low-its-queen-tli) or Mexican Hairless.  Whatever the breed, the boy has no hair … well a few single sprigs of hair here and there, but nothing to brag about!

What this little fella lacks in hair, he more than makes up for with happiness and energy.  He is ALWAYS on the run, jumping up and down like a jumping bean and acting like a goof ball!  He is loving and sweet and can lick your entire face, including cleaning your eyes, nose and ears in less than 30 seconds.  He is amazing!

As cute as he is … and we know lots of people will want him just because he is an unusual breed … we are specifically looking for someone who has experience (that their vet can verify) with this or another hairless breed.  Their skin care is much more involved than any ‘coated’ dog.  They require frequent baths with skin-soothing shampoos.  They require skin moisturizing.  They require use of sunscreen.  They require clothes in cooler weather.  They require a high quality diet to help keep their skin in the best condition.

Our adoption area is limited to a 75-mile radius of Bedford VA.  We will not transport Andre outside of this area.
