Hi … my name is Toby and here are some things you need to know about me:
Approximate age/birthdate: born ~December 2016
Weight/size: 11 pounds
Housebroken: Working on it … he is more interested in playing than ‘taking care of business’ when he gets outside.
Crate trained: Will stay in crate … but will still go potty in crate when he gets excited
Personality: super affectionate, extremely active and happy
Energy level: Very high energy
Fenced yard required?: YES – he loves to explore and run and play and a fence is necessary so he can work of some of the excess energy. Leash walking, even several times/day will not be enough for him.
Does he/she jump fences? NO
Leash walk: YES … he enjoys walking with a person and he has energy to walk for miles
Obedience training: Not yet but he is a smart little guy and will learn quickly … once he can focus. He needs the structure of training classes to bring out his full potential.
Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK
Spayed/neutered: YES
Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES
Microchipped: YES
Social with other dogs: YES although his energy and in-your-face style of play may be too much for some pups
Social with cats: Will annoy the cats trying to chase them and play with them
Good with children: We think he would be ok with older, calmer children. He likes to play but does not like anyone running at him or grabbing him … especially his face. And his energy will probably be overwhelming for younger (under 8) children. He runs full speed all the time and even though he is small he can take an adult off their feet!
Adoption donation: $225
What a cute and sweet and super rowdy boy little Toby is! He is such a lovebug and just loves to play and cuddle (although he is never still … he is wiggling non-stop) … anything to be with his people. And he is a super kisser … loves to kiss your entire face!
He is a bundle of energy and he loves to play and run around at the speed of light!
Testament to that … he has already had an incident of running into something (will never know exactly what) and puncturing his cornea! After 6 weeks of meds and eye drops, he is recovering well but may always have a ‘blind spot’ in the right eye … and he has not slowed down one bit. (Flat-faced dogs are prone to these sorts of injuries and his hyperactivity makes him a prime candidate.)
Toby is not at all the lap dog you think of with most shih-tzus … he is a little man on the move … constantly. He will be best with a patient, active family with lots of time to spend with him. He needs lots of training time (he is a jumper) and constant reinforcement of manners and acceptable behaviors. He will not be a good candidate for a family where he would have long hours alone (even several days per week), a family with young children, or a family not wiling to get him all the exercise and training he needs.
If you think Toby might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online.
We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.
When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Toby picks you too.
If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.
Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
