About Brady

  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White with Black

Brady and his new Dad started celebrating life together on May 23, 2020!

Hi … my name is Brady and here are some things you need to know about me!  After you read through my bio, if you think I might be the perfect pup for you, please go to
www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online.

I AM A SUPER SENIOR AND I HAVE A FEW SPECIAL NEEDS!

Oh my … what a character this boy is!  He will ‘smile’ at you … especially if he thinks he might be in trouble.  He will also try to fake you out with a 'smile' so you will get close enough that he can nip you.  He lived with several other pups but doesn't seem to have been well-socialized with pups outside the family.  He may try to get 'nippy' when meeting new dogs unless his human is patient and makes sure they are properly introduced.  He is not your typical lap dog.  He is very independent and he doesn't care for anyone getting in his face.

A typical shih-tzu, he came to AAMR with a yeast infection in one ear and all over his skin, but he responded well to the medicine and medicated baths.  He still gets 'itchy' from time-to-time and sometimes requires medication. This will be something that will need to be monitored for life.  Due to what seems to be some food allergies, his diet should be controlled so that he does not get a lot of corn and sugars in his diet.  There are many good corn, wheat, and soy free foods available but he also needs to not get added sugars or high fructose corn syrup in his food.  His skin is doing better since he is eating a salmon-based kibble.

If you do not feel like you can adopt and meet his special needs, you can still help him by sponsoring his extended care with tax-deductible donations.  A one-time donation, or monthly or quarterly donations designated for Brady's care will be appreciated.

Approximate age/birthdate:  born ~2010

Weight/size:  26 pounds (yes … fluffy/obese … and on a plan to shed a few pounds)
*Update:  he has shed several pound and is closer to 18 lbs now and feeling good

Housebroken:  YES as long as you do your part and get him outside often

Crate trained:  YES

Personality: independent, happy, stubborn

Energy level:  medium

Fenced yard required?:   Preferred … he really needs a safe place to get outside and walk off some weight.  He likes to explore outside and he will do great going for additional regular walks on leash.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk with manners:  YES

Obedience training:  No but he does listen pretty well and he catches on to new things quickly.  He does NOT, however, always come when called!  He is stubborn and shuts down if correction is not positive.

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES … he came from a multi-pet household but needs to be slowly and properly introduced to new dogs

Social with cats: Has not been around cats in foster care but we guess he would be curious about them, but probably not a threat

Good with children:  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up.  He will not do well with any children (or adults) who insist on picking him up and trying to make him sit still with them. Children will need to be willing to leave him alone, or prepare to be nipped.

Adoption donation: $75

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Brady picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
