Crate trained:  YES

Personality: happy, silly, a little hesitant around strangers but will warm up, busy, vocal

Energy level:  high with bursts of medium

Fenced yard required?:   YES … dachshunds are explorers by nature so he needs a safe place to explore

Does he/she jump fences?  NO (but by nature, dachshunds are diggers … so would need to watch for that)

Leash walk with manners:  YES … he just wants to go fast!

Obedience training:  NO … he is a smart boy and learns new things quickly

Doogie and two other dachshunds found themselves in doggy jail, and we don’t know a lot of the story about why.  What we do know is that they seemed to have only lived outside with little human interaction.  All three were semi-feral and learning to accept affection and care from humans has been a process for them.  Doogie has decided that the people he is dealing with now are OK, and he will come and ask to be picked up and he will follow his foster parents around.  He LOVES to eat (as most doxies do) and he is very treat motivated, so you can bribe him to do a lot of things with a treat.

As many dachshunds are, Doogie is very vocal … when he is happy, when he is excited, when he wants something, when he is bored …. when he isn’t sleeping or otherwise occupied!  He will not be a good apartment or townhouse dweller!

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Doogie picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
