Happy Life sweet Ruby girl! Living it up as an only furchild and being spoiled rotten.
Hi … my name is Ruby and here are some things you need to know about me! After you read through my bio, if you think I might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online. . (AAMR has no shelter where you can go to see pups – only foster homes. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the application.)
NOTE: In order to be considered to adopt Ruby, you must have experience with English Bulldogs and you must have a physically fenced yard and no small pets in the home.
Oh Miss Ruby … what an adorable bundle of love and energy wrapped in a fur coat! If you know and love English Bulldogs, you will absolutely adore this girl. Ruby has always been well-loved, but her family needed to rehome her because they felt like she needed more time and attention. She is very social and two of her favorite things in life are food and belly rubs! The ideal, perfect family for Ruby will have two special things: 1) experience with the English Bulldog breed and 2) a wonderful fenced yard where she could play outside to get fresh air and exercise.
Why are we specifically looking for a family with English Bulldog experience? Because they already love the breed and they understand their special needs. Here are short, simple lists of ‘what’s easy’ and ‘what can be a challenge’ ..
An English Bulldog may be right for you if you want a dog who...
- Is moderately-sized – built low to the ground but very heavy (like a tank)
- Has a short easy-care coat that comes in many colors
- Is easygoing and dependable with most of the world
- Doesn't need much exercise (after they are 3-4 years old) and spends a lot of time on the sofa snoring
- Seldom barks
An English Bulldog may NOT be right for you if you don't want to deal with...
- Tenacious stubbornness if he decides he really, really doesn't want to do something
- Serious food possessiveness – Bulldogs should not be fed around small children or other pets
- Shedding
- Snorting, snuffling, wheezing, grunting, loud snoring
- Slobbering and drooling
- Gassiness (flatulence)
- A multitude of health problems, a short lifespan, and sky-high vet bills
Approximate age/birthdate: December 7, 2018
Weight/size: 50 lbs
Housebroken: YES (as long as you do your part and take her out often)
Crate trained: YES … she will be a very good girl in her crate, if you don’t require her to stay in it for extended periods of time
Personality: happy, friendly, loving, stubborn, silly
Energy level: medium with regular bursts of high
Fenced yard required?: Yes and it must be a physical fence (not electric/underground). Ruby should never be allowed off-leash outside a fenced area.
Does he/she jump fences? NO
Leash walk with manners: Does well but still gets excited sometimes and wants to pull. She’s always in a hurry to explore new things!
Obedience training: Knows ‘sit’ and is treat motivated so she would do well in an obedience class. Ruby will do best with a strong family leader who will set consistent expectations for her.
Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK
Spayed/neutered: YES
Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES
Microchipped: YES
Social with other dogs: NO SMALL DOGS or true Alpha dogs. She will probably not be the one to ‘start’ a confrontation, but she will not back down. She does not tolerate yappy, in-your-face pups (which covers most small pups). She will probably be OK with most easy-going pups once they are properly introduced, but should not be left unsupervised at first. Ruby would be truly happy as an only-dog!
Social with cats: NO CATS
Good with children: Due to her size and energy, she will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up. She might be a bit ‘much’ for younger, smaller children.
Adoption donation: $300
We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.
When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Ruby picks you too.
If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.
