Here are some very important things you need to know about Sophie
Approximate age/birthdate: born ~2010
Weight/size: 30 pounds
Housebroken: YES
Crate trained: YES
Personality: a bit reserved, typically shar-pei … a bit aloof, sweet, independent
Energy level: medium
Fenced yard required?: Definitely preferred – she is a mix of hunting breeds and they do tend to wander if given too much freedom.
Does he/she jump fences? NO
Leash walk: YES
Obedience training: NO but listens well and seems to learn quickly
Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK
Spayed/neutered: YES
Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES
Microchipped: YES
Social with other dogs: YES if properly introduced and other pup is not aggressive or dominant
Social with cats: NO CATS
Good with children: Has not been around children in foster care but we think she would be fine with mature, calm, respectful children. Too much rowdiness and a loud, very active household could intimidate her a little.
Adoption donation: $175
Sophie grew up in a backyard breeding operation and was surrendered to Animal Control. She is definitely mixed with something other than shar-pei, but she still has a lot of the true pei attitude and look. She’s a quiet little girl and a very non-demanding personality. She is not an over-the-top snuggly, cuddly pup, but you definitely know when she likes you.
Sophie has entropion, a condition prevalent in shar-peis, which means her eyelids are too long and curl inward into her eyes and the eye lashes have abraded the cornea of her right eye. When she came into rescue we had surgery done on her eyes to alleviate the condition, and we’re hoping there may be some clearing of the cornea. She was so good after surgery not bothering her sutures. She does show some of her natural prey drive around the cats. She hasn’t tried to hurt them, but she would LOVE to chase them! She is a very, very sweet girl and she’s pretty easy to live with.
If you think Sophie might be the perfect pup for you, please go to our website, click on Forms/Application and complete your adoption application online. Here’s the link http://www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms/
We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it can take up to 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.
When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Sophie picks you too.
If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.
